AXIS 2460 Network DVR

The AXIS 2460 Network DVR (Digital Video Recorder) gives you maintenance-free digital recording of images from up to 4 analog cameras, and simultaneous access to live viewing, playback and administrative functions from anywhere using an Internet Explorer Web browser.

The AXIS 2460 also provides smarter, longer and more secure storage of recordings -- features which make this product unique among DVRs. As with any Axis product, the AXIS 2460 is designed for outstanding ease of installation and operation.

Features
  • Smart storage: Using revolutionary APViS™ (Axis Prioritized Video Storage) technology, the AXIS 2460 uses event and alarm data to differentiate between important and less important video, so that important video sequences can be stored up to 16 times longer than with a conventional DVR. (When a hard disk is full in a conventional DVR, the oldest recordings are simply erased to make room for new ones.)
  • Secure storage: tolerates a hard disk failure without losing entire recordings
  • Not PC-based: self-maintaining, stable operation; automatically resumes operation after a power outage
  • Built-in Web server enables simultaneous remote viewing and administration via an Internet Explorer Web browser
  • Alarm handling, with e-mail notification and possibility to automatically increase recording frame rate upon alarm

Application possibilities

  • Loss prevention - Small businesses such as retail shops and gas stations can easily set up an unmanned surveillance system.
  • Damage control - Transportation companies can use networked DVRs for recording shipment of goods and luggage.
  • "Satellite" surveillance - Large organizations such as retail chains and franchises can build a distributed video storage system that allows global viewing, control and management -- from anywhere.

What is a network DVR?

What is a network DVR_0904The AXIS 2460 Network DVR (Digital Video Recorder) is a self-contained surveillance system that stores high quality video sequences longer than any other conventional DVR solution. It comprises all the necessary components for recording and viewing over the network: CPU, Ethernet interface, memory controllers, device interfaces, JPEG compressor, and up to four IDE hard disks.

Easy to install and use: The AXIS 2460 attaches directly to the IP network and accommodates up to four analog cameras. Its built-in Web interface allows for simultaneous viewing, recording and playback of video sequences via the standard Internet Explorer browser from anywhere on the network.

Optimized storage: The AXIS 2460 uses APViS™ (Axis Prioritized Video Storage) technology, which makes more efficient use of valuable disk space to preserve video recordings longer. By intelligently using event and alarm data, it can differentiate between important and less important video.

Secure storage: The images are sequentially recorded on different hard disks to prevent loosing entire recordings from an unexpected hard disk failure. Essentially, a failed hard disk would show fewer frames of a recording.

System overview

With an AXIS 2460 Network DVR unit in separate locations, large organizations can build globally distributed video storage systems that enable secure, remote viewing and management from anywhere over the network using a standard Web browser.

How does it work?

Example using a video store:

You have installed a surveillance system consisting of an AXIS 2460 Network DVR and  three analog cameras, covering the entrances and coffee room window.

1. Using your Internet Explorer Web browser, you define an alarm event, such as a night time entry.

Under Recording Options, click Event Settings. Click the Add an Event button.

Edit the new event with the following settings:

  • Set event activation to "Alarm Triggered During Time Period"
  • Define an event to record from all three cameras upon alarm
  • Set the time period to night hours
  • Associate the alarm inputs with the break-in sensors
  • Enable an e-mail to be sent when this event occurs

2. Late one night, an intruder breaks into your shop, which automatically activates the recording of the cameras.

3. The following morning, you discover that the AXIS 2460 has sent you an e-mail notification about the break-in.

From the comfort of your home, you access the AXIS 2460 which has captured the intruder at the coffee room window.

4. Using the video player on the Web interface, you playback the recoded sequence and create an AVI-movie that you subsequently hand over as visual evidence to the local police. Thanks to the consistent high quality of the recorded images, the notorious burglar can easily be  identified and brought to justice.
