WaveSwitch 9224
Layer 2/3 Fast Ethernet Switch

Description

WaveSwitch 9224 is a Fast Ethernet standalone switch with 24 10/100 ports and two optional gigabit ports. Built on a powerful, non-blocking switch fabric, the WaveSwitch 9224 delivers the features network managers need to conserve precious bandwidth and improve traffic flow. This wire-speed Layer 2/Layer 3 switch is a perfect solution for a wiring closet, or a collapsed backbone, in a small or midsize business or branch office. It is also an ideal departmental switch in a large enterprise.

IP routing, Quality of Service (QoS)traffic classes and IP Multicast are just some of the traffic-enhancing capabilities built into the WaveSwitch 9224. Network Administrators can configure these options at any time, on any port, to eliminate traditional routers and their bottlenecks, set priorities for different types of networks traffic and keep bandwidth-intense applications, like video, under control.

The WaveSwitch 9224 has an extremely effective way to reduce broadcast and multicast traffic on networks running multiple protocols. The switch snoops the protocol layer of every packet it forwards and automatically creates a virtual LAN (VLAN) based on protocol type. For example, in a network running IPX and NetBEUI, instead of broadcasting packets to all switch ports, the switch keeps all IPX traffic in an IPX VLAN and all NetBEUI in a NetBEUI VLAN.

The WaveSwitch 9224 offers a range of management choices, including WaveView, HP OpenView™, other SNMP management systems, or the WaveSwitch 9224's own built-in management software. Using Netscape™ or Internet Explorer™, you can easily access this software to configure the switch and monitor its performance. That includes configuring IP Routing, IP Multicast, static VLANs, Spanning Tree, setting traps and alarms, viewing all RMON statistics and logging events. You can also manage the switch through the text-based Console Program using VT100 emulation.

The WaveSwitch 9224 offers all these benefits in a complete system package, installs quickly and provides instant bandwidth relief while simple management and automatic features reduce operating costs.
